SHMRC Annual Exhibition: Societies and Demonstrators
The following societies and demonstrators have been booked to appear at this year’s exhibition.
Roger Sawyer
We welcome back Roger Sawyer who will be showing how to solder. If you think you can’t solder, it’s likely that no-one has ever shown you. Come and have a try – it’s not as difficult as you might think.
Roy Hickman
Roy will once again be giving a display of scenic modelling to enhance most layouts, particularly 00 and N gauge. He will be demonstrating how to make trees and other scenic items from everyday materials, where possible giving you the opportunity to try your hand, even the youngsters up to 90 plus can have a go at making a tree or window box etc. so be prepared to spend a while.
Duncan Redford
Come see 3D printing in action. Duncan Redford will be showing how to use free to download software to design your own locos, coaches, wagons and accessories.
EM Gauge Society
The EM Gauge Society is a UK based international society created to promote and cater for railway modellers working to a scale of 4mm/ft with a track gauge of 18.2mm. We also cater for modellers working to the more demanding Protofour (P4) standards with a track gauge of 18.83mm. The society encourages the use of fine scale standards and provides support and resources to promote this.
Becoming a member of the Society gives you access to the EMGS on-line store, additional resources in the Members Area, a copy of the technical manual (on CD), plus access to back copies of the Newsletter.
Scalefour Society
The Scalefour Society caters for the needs of railway modellers working to the scale of 4mm/ft (1:76.2), the most popular of the British model railway scales. It promotes and encourages the use of effective modelling techniques and fine scale standards among all 4mm railway modellers with a particular emphasis on the use of scale wheels and track.
Society Members have the benefits of exclusive access to resources within their website. Membership gives you the Scalefour Digests; a full library of back copies of Scalefour News that can be downloaded; additional technical reference material and much more.
The 2mm Scale Roadshow
The 2mm Scale Association exists to promote and facilitate modelling at the scale of 2mm:1ft. The scale has a long history as the smallest practical finescale standard. By joining the Association, members gain access to a wealth of knowledge and our exclusive component range designed to enable simple and accurate construction.

Our component ranges include jigs and alignment tools which remove the guesswork and need for specialist measuring equipment from precision model making. We also produce booklets which explain the construction techniques which have been developed over the years.
To keep our members in touch we produce a bi-monthly magazine and newsletter. For those with access to the internet we offer an email list where members can chat about anything pertinent to 2mm model making.
Missenden Railway Modellers
Railway modellers have been honing their skills at Missenden Railway Modellers’ unique Weekends for more than 50 years. We offer hands-on, practical courses with some of the best known tutors in the hobby, covering the many and varied skills you need to build the model railway of your dreams. Our weekends and the week long Summer Retreat give you the opportunity of uninterrupted time indulging yourself in your hobby. In the company of like minded individuals with a wealth of knowledge to call upon if needed.
Courses are held at the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s conference centre at Moor Hall in Cookham, near Midenhead.
Historical Model Railway Society
For over 70 years, the HMRS has been helping to record and preserve material on the history of Britain’s railways from the early 1800s up to the present day and more importantly to make that material available to modellers, researchers and students. Today it is an active society and educational charity, offering benefits for all who seek to understand how railways have contributed to British geography, industry and culture. We collaborate with railway line societies and public museums to further the growth of historical knowledge.
We supply information, drawings, photographs, transfers and other products to private individuals, bookshops and model manufacturers.
City of Portsmouth Preserved Transport Depot
Our aim is to conserve and preserve artefacts relating to road passenger transport in Southern England and through our work as a educational charity, to extend this knowledge more widely.
If you are interested in old buses and are a “hands-on and get mucky” sort of person, CPPTD could be just your kind of society! Alternatively, if you do not wish, or are unable, to offer physical help we will be just as pleased to welcome you, and your subscription will be equally as valuable.
